My English lit class finished up the semester by watching Fight Club. It's an interesting movie. I'm not quite sure what to think of it, yet, but it certainly gave me a lot to think about. I sort of like postmodernist works, because they tend to be really experimental and have unusual narrative structures, and I like that. But postmodernism also kind of exasperates me, in a way. I'm trying to understand what the movie's final point on masculine identity is, because obviously that kind of destructive nature isn't healthy. And it seems to be almost against women, lamenting the "feminization of men" (except for maybe the very end). Another theme seems to be identity in an anonymous, consumeristic society. Thankfully, on Wikipedia I found a nice simple explanation from the author of the book: "all my books are about a lonely person looking for some way to connect with other people." The narrator reminds me a bit of Prufrock from Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" (one of my favorite poems).

Does anyone have any thoughts on it?

OKAY, SO I LIED ABOUT BEING OFF HIATUS.

I'm still really horrible at managing my time, and these next two weeks are going to be miserable if I don't keep on top of things. So you won't see me much until finals are over on Dec 18th or thereabouts.
